UN Says Three Humanitarian Workers Killed in South Sudan

JUBA: The UN said on Wednesday that at least three aid workers were killed in South Sudan in December. The UN expressed deep concern over the recent wave of violence against humanitarian workers.

The UN’s Office said in a statement that one aid worker was killed during a crossfire in South Sudan. Another UN worker was killed in a hospital while the third one was killed in the eastern part of South Sudan during an ambush. 

Sara Beysolow Nyanti, the UN humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan said that people in the area are living in complete insecurity. The UN condemned the killings and asked the authorities to step up efforts to secure aid teams in the area. Sara Beysolow Nyanti said that they call upon 

armed men and respective officials to safeguard the lives of humanitarians and civilians.

Last year two aid workers were ambushed and killed as they returned from delivering food in a village in the conflict-prone Lakes State.
