NEW YORK: Marking six months of conflict since the Hamas-led surprise attack of October 7, UN chief Antonio Guterres said the humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the war is unprecedented, with more than one million are facing terrible hunger.

In a statement, the UN Chief termed the situation in the Gaza Strip as “absolutely desperate” and asked Israel to quickly increase the flow of humanitarian assistance.

He said that the past six months of Israel’s army campaign has also brought relentless death and destruction to people of Palestine, with over 107,000 people reportedly killed or injured, the vast majority children and women.

Meanwhile, Arab media reported that the Israeli drone attacks were aimed at compelling worshippers to leave al-Aqsa Mosque after Laylat al-Qadr, one of the most significant events in the Muslim calendar.

It was the 2nd day in a row that Israeli forces fired tear gas at worshippers during this holy month of Ramadan. Israeli troops were also seen beating worshippers with sticks, Arab media maintained.
