UN Secretary General Strongly Condemns Israel’s Aggression Against Jenin City

NEW YORK: UN chief Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned Israel for their excessive use of force during aggression against the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, Arab media reported on Thursday.

As many as 12 Palestinians including five children were killed during the operation. As per media reports more than 4,000 people were forced to flee while homes, buildings and other infrastructure were destroyed by the Israeli forces in Jenin camp.

The UN chief said he was disturbed by news from Jenin city and said: “I strongly condemn all actions of violence against civilian population. Israeli airstrikes and military operations in the refugee camp were the worst violence in the West Bank.”

Earlier, Palestine’s envoy to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, asked the world not to act like “it is a usual matter” in the aftermath of the Jenin attack.

The envoy told the media in New York that he expects “practical measures, and we need to see some practical initiatives.”

Earlier, United Nations human rights experts said that Israel’s acts and aggression in Jenin city represented “egregious violations of global law and may establish a war crime.”

During the aggression, which was described as the fiercest attack since the destruction of the Jenin refugees camp in 2002. The ambulance crews were denied access to the camp, thereby stopping wounded people from receiving medical help.

All wounded people must have access to medical help and care, said the UN Chief, as he called for humanitarian workers to be permitted to reach everyone in need of assistance.
