UNDP Collaborates with Pakistan’s Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of UNDP, led by Resident Representative Samuel Rizk, Deputy Resident Representative Van Nguyen, and Assistant Resident Representative Ammara, met today with Bilal Azhar Kayani, the Convener of the Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at Parliament House.

During the meeting, Kayani briefed the delegation on the Taskforce’s current progress, highlighting the establishment of four sub-groups aligned with the categories of the 17 SDGs: People, Prosperity, Planet, and Peace & Partnership. This organizational structure aims to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in pursuing the SDGs.

Both parties discussed mutual support for conducting orientation sessions and workshops to educate parliamentarians about SDG progress, indicators, and challenges.

They emphasized the importance of informed legislation and advocacy across federal, provincial, and local government levels.

The meeting also underscored the need for successful implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework in Pakistan, along with action plans proposed at the Summit of the Future.

Samuel Rizk commended Convener Bilal Azhar Kayani for restructuring the Parliamentary Taskforce into specialized sub-groups and presented him with a souvenir lapel pin in recognition of his leadership.
