GILGIT: Unidentified attackers set Brogi Girls School in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) on fire and also abducted the security guard of that school, reported the media on Tuesday.

As per the details, the police have launched an investigation to find the perpetrators behind the attack. According to the authorities, unidentified arsonists set on fire the Brogi Girls School building on Tuesday in the early hours and later kidnaped the security guard.

This is not the first event to have happened in Gilgit-Baltistan. In August 2018, unknown attackers burnt down at least 12 schools in the Diamer area of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) spreading fear among locals, according to authorities and villagers.

It has been revealed by Diamer Superintendent Police (SP), Roy Ajmal, that among all the burnt schools at least half of them were girls-only schools.

In some similar events, books were also thrown outside school and burnt but luckily these incidents took place at night when schools were closed.

The literacy rate in the Diamer region is the lowest in the whole of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) for both boys and girls and these schools were constructed to encourage students to go to schools.
