LONDON: Kashmiris, Pakistanis, and their allies organized rallies and events across the EU and the UK over the weekend to commemorate the right to self-determination day for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Hosted by Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK and its EU chapters, the events took place in Barcelona, Spain; Bologna, Italy; Birmingham, and the UK.

Fahim Kayani, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, reminded the international community of the promise made to Kashmiris on January 5, 1949. The promise, made at the UN, assured Kashmiris the right to choose their future through a fair and free plebiscite, which India unilaterally blocked. Kayani emphasized that if Kashmiris are not granted their legitimate right, the credibility of the UN and international rules-based order is at risk.

Tehreek-e-Kashmir Europe President Muhammad Ghalib highlighted the global awakening about the need to liberate occupied lands. He warned that if the international community does not implement its resolutions on Kashmir, tensions may escalate, potentially triggering a nuclear war.

Raja Shafiq Tabasam, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir Spain, and Ch Babar Warriach, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir Italy, stressed that the international community cannot ignore Kashmir and must hold India accountable for violating international law.
