NEW YORK:  The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will vote Thursday on the Palestinians’ plea to become a full member state of the UN, sources said.  AFP citied diplomatic sources as saying that the UNSC is likely to vote over the matter on Thursday.

Amid Israel’s brutal attack in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinians in April revitalized a membership request first made to the UN in 2011, though the veto-wielding US has expressed opposition to the proposal.

Meanwhile, at least 11 people, including children, have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza as Israel continues its offensive of the Palestinian territory. Arab media reported that 7 people were killed, including 4 children, in an Israeli jet strike on a house in the Yabna refugee camp in Rafah.

Iran-Israel Tension

Similarly, the UN, US and Palestinian rights groups join increasing condemnation of Israeli settler strikes on Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank.

More than 33,843 Palestinian people have been killed mostly women and children and over 76,575 injured in Israeli strikes on Gaza since Oct 7.

The recent developments take place in the region as Iran launched a strike on Israel in retaliation for an attack on its embassy building in Damascus, Syria on April 1 attributed to Israel. On Tuesday, Iran and Israel exchanged threats following Tehran’s first direct strike on its arch-rival.

Israeli claimed Iran would not get off “scot-free” following it fired missiles, rockets and drones at Israel over the weekend.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has also warned that the smallest action against Tehran’s interests will definitely be met with extensive and painful reply.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden emphasized that Washington is completely committed to the security of Israel and wants to stop the escalation of the conflict in the region.
