BEIRUT, Lebanon: Amid escalating tensions between Hezbollah and Israel in southern Lebanon, American and British warships have been dispatched to the eastern Mediterranean.
The Guardian reported on Wednesday that the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier is in the area while the Truman strike group, having departed Virginia on Friday, is expected to traverse the Mediterranean towards the Red Sea, though its precise itinerary remains undisclosed.
British and American naval forces have also been noted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar. Recent days have seen heightened Israeli military activity in Lebanon and the broader West Asian region, with Lebanese sources reporting a significant explosion in Beirut on Tuesday evening.
