WASHINGTON: On Sunday, the United States Vice President-elect JD Vance met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. The meeting happened one day before he and President-elect Donald Trump were sworn into office.
According to Reuters, the two-state officials discussed a lot of topics including fentanyl, balancing trade and regional stability, the Trump-Vance transition team said in a statement.
Chinese President Xi Jinping was invited by Trump to attend the inauguration after winning last year’s presidential election; however, xi has sent Han in his place.
Trump Xi phone call
Vance’s meeting with Han came after a recent phone call between Trump and Xi. In that call, the two statesmen discussed issues which included TikTok, trade, and Taiwan.
It became the first official phone call between the pair since Trump’s election in November.

On Saturday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump has told advisers he wants to travel to China after taking office.
In case Trump visits China, this would mark his second visit to the country as president. Trump travelled to Beijing in 2017 during his trip to Asia where he also visited many other countries.
