TAL ABYAD: The US army has repulsed an overnight attack on its base in western Syria by shooting down two unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), Turkish media reported on Thursday.

The media reports citing local sources said that two children were wounded when one of the drones fell on a settlement near the base.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack on the US military base in Homs province’s al-Tanf region near the Jordanian border.

The US has also offered no comments on the incident.

Sources requesting anonymity said that one of the drones crashed near a civilian settlement near the base, wounding two children.

Drones and unidentified surface-to-surface weapons have been used in recent attacks on US military bases in Syria.

Since October 17, there have been more than 100 attacks on American forces in Syria and Iraq.

Local militias occasionally launch rocket and drone attacks on US bases on the eastern bank of the Euphrates.

On Monday US defense systems shot down an armed drone over Ain al-Assad airbase in Iraq.  Meanwhile a drone attack in Erbil airport in Iraqi Kurdistan region last month suspended flight operations at the airport.

The US has around 900 troops in Syria and about 2,500 in Iraq on a mission it says aims to advise and assist local troops trying to stop militancy in the region.
