US Automaker Ford to Slash 3,899 Jobs in Europe, Mostly UK, Germany

ISLAMABAD/PARIS: US automaker Ford announced Tuesday that it would slash 3,800 jobs in Europe, mostly in Britain and Germany, as competition in the electric car industry intensifies.

The company said 2,300 jobs in product development and administrative functions would be cut in Germany, 1,300 in Britain and another two hundred elsewhere in Europe over the next 3 years.

Ford Model e in Europe’s general manager Martin Sander said that this decision is difficult but is not taken lightly.   

He said that the company recognizes the uncertainty it creates for its team, and full support would be offered to them in the months ahead.

Decision aims to revitalize business in Europe

The company said the aim of the decision is to revitalize its business in Europe and compete profitably with the latest line-up of passenger vehicles.

it said that it was responding to swiftly changing market conditions and growing competition in the field of the electric vehicle market.

It added that the job cuts would be done through voluntary departures and that it would maintain an engineering organization of about 3,400 roles in Europe focusing on vehicle design and development.
