DAMASCUS: The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has said that its forces had captured a Daesh operative during a helicopter raid in Syria.

In a statement, it said that Abu Halil Al-Fad’ani, a Daesh official, was captured during a helicopter raid. The statement further said he had relationships throughout the Daesh network in the region.

Troy Garlock, a spokesperson for the US Central Command, said the development increases US CENTCOM’s ability to locate, target, and remove terrorists from the battleground.

He said that US CENTCOM will remain committed to the defeat of the terrorist group Daesh.

It said no civilians were killed or injured during the raid.

In April this year, United States forces had killed a senior Daesh leader in Syria in a helicopter operation.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that Abd-al-Hadi Mahmud al-Haji Ali was the main target of the helicopter raid.

Terrorist group Deash had controlled large areas in Iraq and Syria from 2014 until its defeat in late 2017.

The armed group lost its last stronghold in 2019 but Daesh militants still carry out deadly attacks in Syria and Iraq.
