WASHINGTON: The chief executive of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Suzanne Clark, will pay an official visit to China this week leading a delegation of former U.S. government officials.

According to a representative of the chamber, the top group representing business interests in the United States, said they will hold meetings with senior Chinese government officials, local businessmen, foreign diplomats as well as American business executives.

The visit comes at a time when the United States and China steadily resume engagements after the two economic powers witnessed most tense ties in years. They were at loggerheads over the future of Taiwan, which China claims its territorial part.

Relations between the two countries are still recovering after the United States shot down an alleged Chinese spy balloon a year ago.

U.S. and Chinese top military officials talked for the first time in more than a year in December. Treasury Department said meetings between U.S. Treasury and Chinese financial top officials in Beijing in January concluded with both countries agreed to continue to meet regularly.
