US, China, UN, SA, France, Indonesia Welcome Humanitarian Truce in Gaza

GAZA:  World leaders and countries around the world welcomed on Wednesday the announcement that Hamas and Israel reached an agreement to free prisoners and hostages and pause fierce fighting and bombing in Gaza.

According to the health ministry in Gaza, more than 14,100 people mostly women and children were killed due to Israel brutal attack in Gaza.

US President Joe Biden thanked Qatar and Egypt for their “critical leadership” in reaching the agreement between the two parties.  China hoped “that it will help ease the dilemma of the humanitarian crisis, de-escalate the crisis and ease tensions”, said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed hope that the agreement would also help achieve “an outright end” to the crisis, but emphasized it “must be accompanied by tireless efforts to secure a long-term political solution of the decades-long challenge in the region”.

Indonesia’s foreign ministry hoped the deal would “open the door for a complete end to the crisis and the start of serious talks towards a comprehensive and just peace”.

UN chief Antonio Guterres said the agreement was “a significant step in the right direction, but much more needs to be carried out”, saying that the United Nations would provide help for the implementation of the deal between the two parties.

In a statement, the Turkish ministry of foreign said it hoped the “humanitarian pause will help to end the crisis as soon as possible and initiate a peace process towards a just and lasting peace on the ground of a two-state solution”.

Similarly, France’s Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna welcomed the agreement as a “moment of real hope”.
