WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir discussed recent ‘regional developments’ with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, as reported by the US Department of Defense in a statement on Tuesday.

The brief statement from the defense department mentioned that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Secretary Austin addressed regional matters during a phone call. They also explored areas of mutual interest between the United States and Pakistan.

Pakistan’s military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), has yet to release an official statement regarding the phone call.

This marks the second time that General Munir and the US Secretary have had a telephone conversation. The previous conversation occurred in January of the current year when the US Defense Secretary called General Munir to convey his congratulations on assuming the role of the Army Chief.
