WASHINGTON, USA: The United States has strongly denied any involvement in the resignation of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on August 5 after mass protests in Dhaka demanded her ouster. During a press briefing, State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel called the allegations “laughable” and “absolutely false.”
Sheikh Hasina’s resignation followed weeks of unrest in Bangladesh, leading to over 450 deaths. The turmoil culminated in the formation of an interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Patel emphasized that the recent claims are part of disinformation campaigns and reiterated the U.S. commitment to promoting information integrity, especially in South Asia.
