US Hits Iraqi Militia to Thwart Done Attack on Israel: Report

LONDON: The US military has struck Iraqi militia, Hashd ash-Shabi, as the group was about to carry out a drone attack on Israel, The Times reported on Thursday.

It was the first such airstrike by American forces in the region for six months. Hashd ash-Shabi, the organization targeted in the attack, is suspected of being behind several recent attacks on US personnel in Iraq.

Five people are reported to have been killed, including a member of the Yemeni Houthis, who have also been engaged in drone attacks against Israel and US forces since the beginning of the war on Gaza by Israel on October 7.

According to reports a drone specialist from the Iranian Quds Force, Ahmed Reza Afshari, was also injured in the attack.
