US Most Attractive Market for Pakistan: Designate Envoy

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s designated Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has said that America is the most attractive international market for Pakistan adding that we have to focus on it to explore more and more economic opportunities.

He made the remarks while talking to Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry during his visit to the business body on Friday.

He added that in the capacity of a professional diplomat his first and foremost responsibility will be to bring both countries closer to each other.

The Ambassador-designate expressing his views said that the United States is a consumer society that’s why it enjoys the maximum potential of trade and economic connectivity. Rizwan Saeed Sheikh said that he will focus on more and more liaison to facilitate the holding of exhibitions to showcase Pakistani products.

He added that he was totally convinced that Pakistan would successfully overcome its existing economic hardships and for this purpose, he will also approach the Pakistani-Americans irrespective of their political affiliations to persuade them to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan.

He termed Pakistan’s IT sector as the most significant and attractive area for the rest of the world.

Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari on his part, noted that the United States is not only the biggest export market of Pakistan but a leading investor. He said more than 80 companies are currently operating in Pakistan and providing employment to hundreds of thousands of people.

He added that both nations are resolute in fostering the existing economic collaboration to long-term stability and mutual prosperity by upgrading their economic partnership in agriculture, climate resilience, alternate energy and technology.

Highlighting the significance of direct flights between the two countries he said that over the past few years, the US companies have invested more than $1.5 billion in Pakistan in different sectors, especially in agri-business, consumer goods, financial service, healthcare, information and communication technology and energy.

Senior officials of the ICCI were also present on the occasion.
