WASHINGTON: A missile fired by Yemen’s Houthis at a US Navy warship in the Gulf of Aden was successfully intercepted on Friday, said the US military.
The Houthis, who have been conducting attacks on international shipping for the past two months, targeted the Arleigh-Burke class destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64), said the US Central Command. However, no injuries or damage were reported in the attack.
In response to the Houthi attacks on maritime trade routes, US and British forces conducted joint strikes to diminish the rebels’ ability to target vessels. The Houthis, however, have remained defiant, continuing their assaults. The recent missile incident adds to the ongoing tension in the region.

The Houthis initiated attacks on Red Sea shipping in November, claiming to target Israeli-linked vessels in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza being targeted by the Israeli offensive.
The Houthis subsequently expanded their targeting to include US and British interests, declaring them as legitimate targets.
