WASHINGTON: A US official confirmed that some Americans were killed in the attacks on Israel by the Palestinian Hamas, Western media reported on Sunday.
A spokesperson for the US National Security Council said that several US citizens were killed in the attacks while extending deepest condolences to the victims and to the families of all those affected.
The statement comes as an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Sunday failed to take a unanimous stance against Hamas, a setback to the US and Israel.
Russia and China urged the UNSC members to take a broader view of the situation to find a peaceful solution to the Palestine cause following the recent escalation in the conflict between Israel and Palestinian group in Gaza.

The death toll in Gaza has risen to 400 as Israeli airstrikes continue to devastate the region, with close to 2,000 people wounded, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Israel has struck 426 targets in Gaza, resulting in the flattening of residential buildings in massive explosions, leaving a significant portion of the territory in ruins.
As per media reports, at least 700 Israelis have been killed in Israel — a toll on a scale the country has not experienced in decades.
