WASHINGTON: The United States will carry out more strikes after the killing of three US troops by Iranian-backed groups last weekend, said White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday.

While interacting with western media he said that the US intends to conduct additional strikes to send a clear message that Washington will respond when its forces are attacked and when its people are killed.

The United States and the UK launched strikes against 36 Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday, during the ongoing military operation against Iran-affiliated groups following an attack that killed three American troops in Jordan last weekend.

The Pentagon said that on Saturday the US military targeted 13 sites in Yemen which according to it the Houthis used to attack Red Sea shipping.

The recent strike came one day after the US conducted its first retaliatory strikes on more than 85 targets in Iraq and Syria linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the groups it supports.

The recent escalation is the latest blow in a conflict that has spread into the Middle East since October 7, when the war between Palestinian group Hamas and Israel started in the Gaza Strip.

Sullivan expressing his views said that what occurred on Friday is the beginning and not the end. He said there will be more steps, some seen, some perhaps unseen in US response to the deadly attacks.
