WASHINGTON: Former US President Donald Trump has appealed an order requiring former vice president, Mike Pence, to confirm in the special counsel investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the US Capitol, Reuters reported on Monday.

Trump’s legal team filed the appeal following a ruling linked to the Justice Department probe of efforts to undercut the 2020 presidential polls that Trump lost to Joe Biden.

Mike Pence last week revealed that he would not file appeal a judge’s order that needs him to testify to a grand jury regarding conversations he had with Donald Trump leading up to the attack on the US Capitol.

In a March order, the judge also said Mike Pence can still refuse to answer questions linked to January. 6.

Attorney General Merrick Garland had appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith in November to deal the two Trump investigations.

At issue are efforts to delay with the peaceful transfer of power after Trump’s 2020 loss to Joe Biden and Trump’s holding of classified materials at his estate in Florida following leaving office in 2021.
