WASHINGTON: The United States on Wednesday announced a sweeping round of sanctions targeting nearly 400 people and firms in over a dozen countries, accusing them of facilitating the transfer of advanced technology to Russia in support of its military efforts in Ukraine.
The US Treasury Department announced sanctions against 275 individuals and firms in countries including China, India, Switzerland and Turkey aimed at “disrupting global evasion networks.”
“The United States and our allies will continue to take decisive action across the globe to stop the flow of critical tools and technologies that Russia needs to wage its illegal and immoral war against Ukraine,” stated Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo.
This latest round of sanctions includes actions from the US State Department, which imposed additional penalties on entities accused of supporting Russia’s war efforts.

“The Department of State is targeting sanctions circumvention by parties in multiple third countries, several senior Russian Ministry of Defense officials and defence companies, and those that support the development of Russia’s future energy production and exports,” said Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The US Commerce Department also rolled out trade restrictions against 40 foreign entities for alleged support of Russia’s military operations.
Alan Estevez, Commerce’s undersecretary for industry and security, emphasized the importance of protecting American-made technologies from being used to fuel Russia’s defence industry. “American products do not belong in the hands of those who prop up Russia’s defence industrial base,” Estevez stated.
