WASHINGTON: The United States has denounced an attack targeting an election rally in Sibi, Balochistan, saying that Pakistanis have the right to elect their leader “without fear of reprisal or violence.”
This was stated by State Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller during a press briefing. He said that the US strongly condemned any violence which undermined the electoral process in Pakistan.
He added that they extended their deepest sympathies to those affected by the attack on a party rally in Pakistan.

APP reported that the attack was one of several such incidents in recent days, with electioneering going on in full swing as the South Asian country heads to general elections on February 8.
Mathew Miller said that they believed in the resilience of the Pakistani people and their ability to recover. He added that the US remained committed to working with Pakistan in addressing the shared threat posed by terrorists across the region. He added that the US supported the Pakistani Government’s efforts to combat terrorism.
