WASHINGTON: A US Secret Service review has admitted poor preparation and a communication breakdown among a litany of security failures on the day of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump 60 days ago.

According to Secret Service acting Director Ronald Rowe, the interim report of the organization showed “complacency” by some of its personnel.

He stated that the use of different radio frequencies by Secret Service and police meant Trump’s protection team were not aware a suspicious men had been identified at the Butler, rally.

The report highlighted the failure to secure the compound that the armed men fired from. The assault on 13 July led to the resignation of the Secret Service’s director. Rowe said on Friday that Secret Service did not give clear direction to law enforcement partners.

An armed man fired eight shots at Donald Trump from the roof of a compound. The Republican candidate’s ear was grazed by a bullet, while one person was killed and two others were wounded before a Secret Service sniper shot the accused dead.

Friday’s internal findings show Trump’s security detail was unaware that state and local law enforcement agencies were intensely pursuing a suspicious man, who turned out to be the armed man.
