The senator group will be co-led by Senator Mike Crapo, whose office said earlier the visit is planned for the upcoming week and that the lawmakers hope to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

The visit will follow trips by a series of Biden administration top officials, including Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo in August.

Schumer’s office stated the visit’s goal is to advance U.S. economic and national security interests in the region and will hold meetings with government officials and business leaders from each side and from U.S. firms operating in each nation.

Other lawmakers on the visit include Republicans John Kennedy, and Bill Cassidy and Democrats Jon Ossoff and Maggie Hassan.  On the other hand, the Chinese Embassy did comment on the visit.
