WASHINGTON: The US State Department Thursday called Russia’s replacement of its commander in the war against Ukraine as insanity, saying numerous reshuffles would not alter the result.

Answering a query about the possible implications of General Valery Gerasimov’s take over from Sergei Surovikin 3 months later, the State Department spokesman Ned Price told Anadolu that it was really a better question for the Russia.

Why replacement an insanity?

He said that the Russia’s commander replacement decision is like doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result.

Ned Price said we have witnessed that Russia appointed various commanders in Ukraine numerous times, each time opting for some senior, more effective and seasonal, but only to find the same result.

He said that Russia may be trying to change the dynamic again with a new commander but the broader and underlying dynamic is not to have change.

Russian defense ministry announced on Wednesday that Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov has been appointed as the Russian commander in Ukraine. — AA/APP
