KABUL: The United States (US) Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas West, met with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) deputy envoy for the United Nations, Mohammad Abu Shahab, to discuss the latest developments in Afghanistan.
The meeting, held on Friday, also addressed the issue of empowering Afghan women and girls, as well as the full implementation of UN Security Council resolution 2721, UAE Mission to the UN said in a post on X.
Co-penned by the UAE and Japan, this resolution, adopted in December of the previous year, advocates for the appointment of a UN special envoy for Afghanistan—a suggestion opposed by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
