NEW YORK: Ahead of the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup match against Pakistan, USA pacer Ali Khan received invaluable guidance and bowling tips from Pakistan’s pace bowling icons, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar. The 32-year-old fast bowler, whose journey to international cricket has been inspired by Pakistani pacers.

Born and raised in Pakistan, Ali Khan relocated to the United States with his family at the age of 18. His early years were shaped by the cricketing culture of Pakistan and idolizing legendary pacemen such as Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, and Wasim Akram.

Ali Khan’s exceptional pace and ability to consistently deliver yorkers at speeds exceeding 135 kilometers per hour did not go unnoticed, catching the attention of former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh during an open trial organized by ICC Americas in Indianapolis back in September 2015. This led to his inclusion in the 15-man combined ICC Americas squad for the 2016 WICB Nagico Super50 competition.

Ali Khan had claimed the wicket of the legendary Kumar Sangakkara with his very first ball in the Caribbean Premier League while representing the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Despite grappling with persistent hamstring injuries, the Ohio-based speedster has continued to make significant contributions with the ball whenever called upon to represent the USA.
