Uzbek President Reiterates Stance on Palestinian’s Right of Own State

ISTANBUL: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reiterated his country’s position on right of Palestinian people to have their own state, Turkish media reported on Thursday.

Mirziyoyev was addressing the 16th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.

He said Uzbekistan once again reaffirm its firm position on the Palestinian people’s right to have their own state, as approved by the UN resolutions.

He said the war between Palestinian group, Hamas and Israel in Gaza is a matter of concern for all. He added that the civilian population is suffering the most and has become a victim due to the ongoing conflict.

The president called upon both sides to establish a cease-fire, start peace negotiations and come to a reasonable compromise.

He added the risk of war spreading throughout the region is very high. The president stressed the conflict must not be allowed to escalate into a full fledge war.

ECO cannot abandon the Afghan people

Mirziyoyev while noting absence of Afghanistan at the conference said that the ECO cannot abandon the Afghan people.

He noted that it is imperative to engage with Afghanistan in the process of regional integration as a necessary condition for sustainable development.

He urged all participants of the summit to enhance humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and address the social and economic problems through joint responsibility and effective mechanisms.

Israel launched incessant air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7. At least 10,569 Palestinians, including 4,324 children and 2,823 women, have been killed so far.
