Uzbekistan Gears Up for Presidential Elections with Over 19 Million Registered Voters

TASHKENT: Uzbekistan is set to hold its Presidential Elections tomorrow (July 9), with more than 19.66 million registered voters expected to exercise their right to vote and choose the country’s new President for the next seven years.

During a press briefing in Tashkent on Saturday, Zainiddin Nizamkhojaev, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), assured that the elections would be conducted transparently, and all necessary arrangements have been completed. Nizamkhojaev emphasized that international observers and journalists have been granted open access to visit polling stations and observe the voting process, ensuring openness and transparency in the presidential election.

Foreign Observers and Journalists to Monitor Uzbekistan Elections

A total of 797 foreign observers and journalists have been accredited to monitor the elections, according to the CEC. The presence of these observers aims to enhance the credibility and fairness of the electoral process.

Four main candidates are vying for the position of Uzbekistan’s President. They include Ulugbek Ilyasovich INOYATOV, the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan; Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev, the Presidential Candidate of the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan; Robakhon Anvarovna MAKHMUDOVA, the Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party Adolat of Uzbekistan; and Abdushukur Khudoykulovich KHAMZAEV, the Presidential Candidate of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan.

It is worth noting that citizens residing abroad have already cast their votes at their respective diplomatic missions, including in Pakistan.

Of particular significance, the Presidential elections are being held on July 9, 2023, more than three years ahead of the originally scheduled date in 2026.
