Uzbekistan President and Emir of Qatar Discuss Bilateral Relations

DOHA: In a significant diplomatic move, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, held crucial talks at the Emiri Diwan complex in Doha, delving into various areas of cooperation.

The discussions, held on October 2, emphasized the deepening of political dialogue, amplifying trade, economic, and investment partnerships, and fostering cultural and humanitarian exchanges between the two nations, as reported by UzA.

During the talks, both leaders highlighted the historic visit of the Emir of Qatar to Samarkand in June, which marked a pivotal moment in their bilateral relations. A mutual commitment was made to elevate Uzbekistan’s interaction with Qatar to the status of a strategic partnership, underlining the growing cooperation between the two countries.

Satisfactory progress was noted regarding the intensification of contacts at different levels, with a visible increase in trade turnover and the establishment of air traffic between the capitals. The leaders acknowledged the initiation of joint projects with prominent Qatari companies, signifying a strengthened economic collaboration.

Business Ties Between Uzbekistan and Qatar

To further bolster their business ties, plans were outlined to convene the first meetings of the joint Intergovernmental Commission, Business Council, and business forum in Doha in January 2024. Both nations expressed their willingness to significantly increase trade indicators and implement joint investment projects in sectors including traditional and green energy, petrochemicals, advanced metal processing, agriculture, construction, tourism, and finance.

Additionally, Uzbekistan expressed keen interest in deepening cooperation with Qatari scientific and education institutions, focusing on joint research in areas such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and green energy. An agreement was reached to organize the Culture and Tourism Week of Uzbekistan in Doha, fostering greater understanding and collaboration in these sectors.

Following the talks, a significant milestone was achieved as several bilateral documents were signed to further enhance cooperation between Uzbekistan and Qatar. Agreements on tourism and business events, cooperation in social protection, mutual understanding in law enforcement, investment cooperation, anti-corruption efforts, religious affairs, human rights, and the establishment of a joint business council were among the key documents signed.

These agreements signify a new chapter in the relationship between Uzbekistan and Qatar, promising increased collaboration and mutual growth in various fields, ultimately strengthening the ties between the two nations.
