Uzbekistan to Export Electricity to Europe

TASHKENT: Uzbekistan will be able to export green electricity generated in the country to Europe through Azerbaijan from 2030, Uzbek media reported on Friday.

Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov stated it is necessary to lay a deep-sea cable in the Caspian Sea.

As pert reports that electricity will be exported from Kazakhstan through the common energy system of Central Asia, then via a deep-sea cable to Azerbaijan. From Azerbaijan it will go to Georgia and then a through a cable along the bottom of the Black Sea to Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria.

Uzbekistan has already signed a memorandum of cooperation on the integration of energy systems with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan plans to export from 2 to 5 gigawatts of electricity from renewable sources to Europe. According to the plans, electricity generation from renewable energy sources by 2030 will surpass 20 gigawatts.
