Uzbekistan, Wilmar International Ink Deal for $100 Million Mega Plant in Tashkent

TASHKENT: Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Singapore facilitated the signing of a Cooperation Agreement to establish a mega plant and distribution hub in the Tashkent region, reported UzA.

The virtual signing ceremony saw the participation of Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov, Tashkent region Head Zoir Mirzayev, and Kuok Khoon Hong, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Directors of Singapore’s Wilmar International Limited.

Under the agreement, a mega plant in the Tashkent region, specializing in the production of flour products, vegetable oils, and high-protein feeds. Wilmar International Limited is set to invest an initial $100 million in direct funding for the project, with the feasibility study slated for completion in the first half of the current year.

According to the Singaporean representatives, the construction of this plant is poised to strategically integrate Uzbekistan into Wilmar’s global supply chain.

Furthermore, the development of the distribution center is expected to position Uzbekistan as a significant exporter to the markets of Central Asia, the Middle East, and other global destinations.
