ISLAMABAD: Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Jamshid Khodjaev Abdukhakomovich, leading a 7-member delegation on an official visit to Islamabad, called on Pakistan Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Kakar welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Khodjaev and the Uzbekistan delegation. He recalled his recent meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyovev during the 16th ECO Summit in Tashkent held on November 8-9 this month.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace of bilateral engagements, Prime Minister Kakar highlighted progress in trade, defense, and connectivity between the two countries. He commended the outcomes of the First Trilateral Meeting of Commerce Ministers of Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan held in Islamabad, emphasizing the potential of the trilateral mechanism to enhance trade relations.
Pakistan’s PM Stresses Enhancements in Bilateral Ties with Uzbekistan
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of continuing people-to-people exchanges, suggesting improvements in visa procedures, banking channels, and reciprocal warehousing facilities to further boost bilateral trade. He expressed optimism that the business communities of both countries could achieve the bilateral trade target of US$ 1 billion in a short time.
Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister Khodjaev thanked Pakistani Prime Minister Kakar for the warm hospitality and briefed him on productive meetings with Pakistan’s business community, particularly in the banking and logistics sectors. He expressed hope for ongoing collaboration on the timely completion of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway Project.
The Uzbekistan delegation included Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov Rustamovich, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade Badriddin Abidov, Deputy Foreign Minister Bobur Usmanov, Deputy Chairman of State Security Service Maj. General Farukh Mukhtarov, and Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Islamabad Mr. Oybek Arif Usmanov.
The Pakistani delegation included Minister of Commerce Gohar Ijaz, along with secretaries of Commerce, the Board of Investment, and other senior officials.
