As the Super Blue Moon, the union of a super moon and a blue moon, rises over the skyline of Caracas, Venezuelans reflect on the symbolism of the phenomenon amid a deep crisis that has gripped the country since the disputed July 28 presidential election.

The term “blue moon” has nothing to do with color, but refers to the third full moon in an astronomical season of four. A supermoon, on the other hand, refers to a full moon that occurs when it is closer to Earth in its orbit, resulting in a slightly larger and brighter appearance. AFP
