ISLAMABAD: A video of Pakistani Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah went viral on social media which showed him enjoying a boat ride along with his wife in Paris. The viral video has sparked a wave of criticism from political opponents back in Pakistan.

The footage, which appeared on TikTok, shows Sanaullah and his wife leisurely cruising along the Seine River during their visit to the French capital.

The video surfaced amid Sanaullah’s official trip to Paris, where he was attending the 11th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Conference and participating in events related to the Paris Olympics.

His critics have accused him of using taxpayer money for what appears to be a family vacation rather than focusing solely on his official duties.

Sanaullah, who also serves as Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, traveled to Paris last month for several high-profile events. He attended the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics and represented Pakistan at the Commonwealth Sports Ministers’ Conference held from July 24-25.

Sanaullah participated in the “Change The Game” Ministerial Forum at UNESCO. The forum focused on leveraging quality physical education and sports to create sustainable social legacies.

The timing of the video’s release and its subsequent virality have intensified scrutiny of Sanaullah’s conduct during his official trip. Critics argue that the minister’s leisure activities in Paris detract from the serious nature of his official responsibilities and are an inappropriate use of public funds.

Sanaullah has not yet issued a public statement in response to the controversy.
