PESHAWAR: The Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has termed reports viral on both social media and news organisations showing a roaring leopard roaming at Adenizai Tehsil of Lower Dir district as `fake’.
Sajjad Ali DFO Dir on Friday said the video made viral by some netizens in Lower Dir area showing free movement of a roaring leopard in a forested area is completely fake and is not recorded in the area.
The video sent waves of fear and panic among residents of the area soon after it went viral on social media.
A local community has also warned that if the wildlife department does not capture the beast, it will be gunned down by them for safety purposes.
Some news outlets also reported the presence of leopards in the area, aggravating the sense of shock and horror among people.
According to the DFO Wildlife Dir the video is very old and has been reported earlier from different places including Galliyat in Abbottabad.
He asked social media users not to share unauthentic reports which not only causes panic among the public but also creates problems for concerned departments.
