HANOI, Vietnam: Vietnam will develop a software and database for tightening the management of planting areas and packaging facilities to support agricultural product exports.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said in a statement on Friday that it will also expand export markets, support localities and businesses to meet the requirements of the markets, and diversify goods.

It will provide more professional training and guidance for local officials on regulations of importing nations, Xinhua reported citing a local media outlet.

In Vietnam, a total of 6,883 planting area codes and 1,588 agricultural-product packing facility codes have been granted so far, mostly in the Mekong Delta area, Director of the Ministry’s Plant Protection Department Huynh Tan Dat said.

Mainly focused export items

He said these codes mainly focus on main export items such as dragon fruit, longan, rice mango, and durian.

In the first 7 months of this year, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports increased by 68.1% year on year to over 3.2 billion US dollars with China among the largest importers, according to the country’s General Statistics Office.
