NEW DELHI: In a deeply disturbing incident that unfolded in a village in India’s Rajasthan state’s Pratapgarh district, a pregnant tribal woman was subjected to public humiliation by her husband and his family. The shocking video of the incident went viral on social media

The video shows the woman being forcibly stripped of her clothes in front of a crowd and subjected to a humiliating public parade by her husband. Early investigations into the matter suggest that the woman was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship, which led to her degrading treatment at the hands of her husband.

According to police officials, the victim had been married for just a year. However, her husband and in-laws accused her of having an affair with another man from the same village.

In-laws Punish Pregnant Woman in India

The Director General of Indian Police (DGP) stated, “The woman was punished by her in-laws. They took her to the village, where the incident took place. Her in-laws were angry with her because she was living with another man.”

In response to the incident, the police have arrested a total of ten suspects connected to the case, including Kana Meena, identified as the victim’s husband.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the culprits under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which deals with the transmission of obscene material.

The Chief Minister of the region took cognizance of the incident and posted a message on his X handle, stating, “In Pratapgarh district, a video of a woman being stripped naked by her in-laws has surfaced in a family dispute with her in-laws. The Director General of Police has been instructed to send ADG Crime on the spot and take strict action in this matter. There is no place for such criminals in a civilized society. These criminals will be put behind bars as soon as possible and punished after being prosecuted in a fast-track court.”

The National Commission for Women (NCW), which represents the rights of women in India and advocates for their issues and concerns, has also taken note of the incident. They have criticized the police officials for their inaction prior to the video going viral and have demanded a comprehensive report from the police within five days.
