ISLAMABAD: Virat Kohli became the first player in the history of the game to feature in 300 ODIs while also playing 100 Tests and 100 T20Is.
As India faced New Zealand in their final ICC Champions Trophy Group A match, Kohli marked his 300th ODI appearance, adding another achievement to his illustrious career.
Kohli, who also played his 200th ODI against New Zealand, became the 7th Indian and 18th player globally to reach the 300 ODI milestone.
However, a special record awaited him in this match: he became the first player to play 300 ODIs while having already played at least 100 Tests and 100 T20Is. While 18 cricketers have reached 300 ODIs, none of them had played 100 matches in both Tests and T20Is.

Kohli’s runs
Before the New Zealand match, Virat Kohli had accumulated 14,085 runs in 299 ODIs, with an average of 58.20 and a strike rate of 93.41.
Kohli achieved several milestones on his journey to 14,000 runs in ODI cricket. He became the fastest player to reach 8,000 runs (175 innings), 9,000 runs (194 innings), 10,000 runs (205 innings), 11,000 runs (222 innings), 12,000 runs (242 innings), 13,000 runs (287 innings), and 14,000 runs (299 innings) in the 50-over format for India.
Heading into the New Zealand clash, Kohli was coming off a century against Pakistan in India’s previous group match. Although his form had been a bit off recently, he demonstrated once again that the 50-over format is the best fit for his abilities.
His century against India’s arch-rivals in Dubai marked his 51st career ODI ton.
However, New Zealand posed a significant challenge, as they were the most in-form team India had faced in the competition.
Like Rohit Sharma’s side, the Kiwis were unbeaten in the Champions Trophy so far and had also won the tri-nation ODI series, which included Pakistan and South Africa, before the tournament began.
