Voter Registration Deadline Extended till July 23

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has extended the deadline for voter registration for the forthcoming general elections in the country, to July 23.

Initially, the ECP had announced July 13 as the deadline for voters registration. In a statement Saturday, the electoral watchdog emphasized the importance of citizen participation in the democratic process as it asked to obtain vote information.

Secretary Election Commission, Umar Hamid Khan urged citizens to visit the office of the District Election Commission for voter registration and verification. The registration form is available on the ECP’s website for those who prefer to fill it out online.

ECP’s SMS service

To acquire constituency details and the status, people can simply text their National Identity Card number to 8300. According to the Commission, a new voter can submit an application along with a copy of CNIC to the District Election Commissioner (DEC), registration officer or assistant registration officer where they want their names enrolled.

How to register?

The prescribed form (Enrolment / Transfer of Vote) is available online at the Commission’s website or can be obtained free of cost from the office of the District Election Commissioner / Registration Officer or Assistant Registration Officer/Display Centre In-charge.

Eligibility to be a voter

A person shall be entitled to be enrolled as a voter in an electoral area if he is a citizen of Pakistan; is not less than 18 years of age; possesses a National Identity Card issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and if he is not declared by a competent court to be of unsound mind.
