NEW YORK: Walmart unveiled two new AI-powered tools to help shoppers quickly search for products and automate the process of re-ordering frequently ordered items, local media reported on Wednesday.

This tool enables users to search for products based on specific scenarios, such as “a football watch party” or “help me plan a unicorn-themed party for my daughter.” Instead of searching for individual items, shoppers receive a tailored list of products. Currently, available to iOS users, this feature will be extended to the website and Android app later this year.

In addition, Walmart is developing “Walmart InHome Replenishment,” a tool aimed at users of its subscription-based InHome delivery service. This tool streamlines the process of filling online shopping carts with regularly purchased items.

Walmart is also expanding the reach of its in-house AI tool, My Assistant, to employees in 11 countries. Furthermore, the company has introduced an AI and computer vision service at Sam’s Club stores, eliminating the need for manual receipt verification.

Currently, in a pilot phase at 10 stores, this technology utilizes cameras and AI processing in the exit area to capture cart images and verify payments, with plans to expand to nearly 600 clubs by the current year’s end.

Reflecting the broader trend in various industries, Walmart is actively exploring the consumer applications of Generative AI technology. This move follows in the footsteps of competitors like Amazon, which utilizes generative AI for improved ad targeting, and Volkswagen, which announced the integration of ChatGPT into its vehicles at the recent CES conference.
