GAZA: The health ministry in Gaza said Tuesday at around 25,490 Palestinians have been killed in the Strip in the war between Hamas and Israel.

The latest toll also included 195 fatalities in the last 24 hours, a ministry statement said.  It added that more than 63,354 people had been injured since the war erupted on October 7.

Earlier, 24 Israeli soldiers were killed in the Gaza Strip, the army admitted on Tuesday, the biggest death toll in a single day since the conflict began in October, amid what people of Palestine said was the most intense bombing of southern Gaza in the war.

Israeli army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that 21 soldiers were killed in a blast. He said the Hamas had fired rocket-propelled grenades at a tank, and at the same time a blast occurred in two buildings where Israeli soldiers had planted explosives materials to destroy it. The buildings collapsed onto the Israeli soldiers.

Earlier, media reported that dozens of Palestinian people were killed Monday in heavy fighting in Khan Younis, where Palestinians dug graves in the courtyard of the city’s Nasser Hospital as staff tried to deal with the large number of injured people, including children. Gaza’s phone and internet networks also collapsed again for the 10th time during the conflict, posing another major challenge for first responders and making it very difficult for people to reach loved ones in different areas of the territory.

The increasing death toll and dire humanitarian situation have led to growing international pressure to scale back the offensive.

Meanwhile, media reported that Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Foreign Ministers from Turkiye, Lebanon and Iran ahead of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Tuesday to discuss the situation in the Middle East.
