Warning Issued Regarding Buying Mobile Phones

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an advisory to consumers and public to exercise caution when purchasing mobile phones from the market.

In a statement via social media, the PTA has urged citizens to be vigilant against duplicate or cloned mobile devices in the market. The authority stressed that consumers should always purchase phones from reliable sources as well as ensure that the devices come with a valid warranty.

The authority further instructed buyers to opt for boxed mobile phones and verify the PTA stamp on the box, and check that the IMEI number on the phone matches the one on the box.

To verify their phones and devices, users are also encouraged to visit the website /https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk, text their IMEI number to 8484, or use the DVS application.

The PTA also warned against purchasing expensive phones and devices at unusually low prices from the market. Consumers were also advised to ensure they buy boxed mobile devices and to contact the seller and report any issues to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) if they fall victim to a scam.
