RAWALPINDI: Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) Rawalpindi is taking proactive measures in anticipation of the upcoming monsoon season, following directives from the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

As part of these preparations, WASA has undergone a thorough review of its drainage machinery and overall readiness for the monsoon. The assessment was conducted by a third-party team, including Superintending Engineer Qaiser Rashid from the Public Health Engineering Department Gujranwala Division, who recently visited WASA Rawalpindi for an inspection.

During the inspection, the team, which also included WASA’s Managing Director Muhammad Salim Ashraf and Director of Sewerage and Drainage, found the drainage machinery and arrangements to be satisfactory. Specifically, they reviewed the modern winching machines used for cleaning sewage lines, particularly focusing on Asghar Mall Road.

Following the assessment, it was determined that the machinery used for monsoon preparations met the required standards. Additionally, a funding proposal for the proper cleaning of Nullah Lai has been submitted to the Punjab government, with approval expected soon.

In terms of funding allocation, WASA has received Rs 60 million for the maintenance of major drains across the city. The tendering process for these projects has commenced, ensuring that all necessary arrangements will be completed well in advance of the monsoon season.

As part of their community engagement efforts, WASA urges citizens to refrain from disposing of garbage and solid waste in drains and sewer lines. By working together to maintain cleanliness, residents can help mitigate the risk of flooding and ensure a smoother monsoon season for everyone.
