Washington, Islamabad Vow to Strengthen Economic Cooperation

WASHINGTON:  Pakistan’s newly appointed Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, began his interactions with US lawmakers with a telephonic conversation with Congressman Tom Suozzi, a leading member of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus on Tuesday, according to a Pakistani embassy press release.

The two sides discussed Pakistan-U.S. relations focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation, the statement said. Congressman Suozzi, extending his congratulations to Ambassador Sheikh on his appointment.  On his part, the Pakistani envoy underscored the significance of Pakistan-U.S. ties to both the countries and the region.

Ambassador Sheikh spoke of the “positive trajectory” in the bilateral relationships, adding, “We are resolutely committed to harnessing this spirit of goodwill and friendship to further enhance our multifaceted ties, particularly in the area of economic cooperation.”

In a gesture of gratitude, Sheikh thanked Congressman Suozzi for his felicitations on Pakistan’s Independence Day. Suozzi, in turn, lauded the Pakistani diaspora for its invaluable contributions to strengthening the Pakistan-U.S. relationship and its broader impact on American society.
