WB to Provide $90m to KP for Prevention of Non-communicable Diseases

PESHAWAR: The World Bank (WB) will provide about 90 million dollars to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in the province.

Coordinator Health Sector Reforms KP Dr Javed Sattar told APP that the government was working on a mega project for the prevention and control of these diseases, and preparation of its PC-I is in the final stage.

He said WB has pledged to provide about 90 million dollars for the project, which would be completed in 5 years in the province.

He said that THQs and DHQs hospitals were being strengthened in terms of infrastructure, labs, equipment, and staff in thirty-two districts with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank.

Received amount for prevention of diseases

He added that out of the 100 million dollars committed amount by ADB, USD 25 million dollars has been so far received and the project would be completed by 2026.

The KP government would spend 2 billion rupees on strengthening and running primary healthcare centers and BHUs through the private sector in fifteen districts and 1.5 billion rupees on newborn children and maternal health and allied services.

Moreover, the provincial government has identified fifty-six sites in merged tribal districts for establishing new hospitals, rural health centers, and basic health units.

A feasibility study of the project worth 12,440 million rupees was completed besides the allocation of 3,900 million rupees for it under the Accelerated Implementation Program 2022-23 and practical work on it would soon be launched.
