Weinstein Sentenced to Sixteen Years on Los Angeles Rape Case

LOS ANGELES: A court has awarded 16 years jail to former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein for a rape conviction in Los Angeles, western media reported on Thursday.

He was convicted in the Los Angeles case in last December, three years after Weinstein was convicted at a crimes trial in New York. According to media reports, the jury found him guilty in the Los Angeles case.

Weinstein’s legal team has filed a petition pleading a new trial, but a judge of the Superior Court rejected Weinstein’s appeal for a new trial.

Weinstein sentenced in Los Angeles case

The former Hollywood producer, who also appeared in the court was also permitted to speak during the hearing. On the occasion, Weinstein proclaimed his innocence in the case.  He pleaded that please did not sentence him to life in prison as he did not deserve it.

The former producer is presently serving a 23-year punishment on a sexual assault case that was viewed a landmark trial of the #MeToo movement.

Weinstein was also convicted in New York in 2020 for crimes against two females including a production assistant. Weinstein has denied all allegations in the case.

Former Hollywood producer Weinstein and his brother, Bob, were titans of the movies business and they produced “Pulp Fiction,” and Oscar-winning dramas like “Shakespeare in Love”.
