West Indies Defeat South Africa in World Championship of Legends

BIRMINGHAM:  West Indies registered its first win of the World Championship of Legends 2024 by defeating South Africa by six wickets at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on Sunday.

The team led by Chris Gayle chased the 175-run target in the last over for the loss of four wickets. South Africa have lost all of their matches.

Gayle played a brilliant 40-ball 70 innings and was instrumental in the run chase. Chadwick Walton also showed his class with 29-ball 56.

Vernon Philander got two wickets for South Africa while Charl Langeveldt and Neil McKenzie took one each.  Earlier, South Africa set a target of 174 for the loss of five wickets after being asked to bat by the Men in Maroon.

No batter managed to score fifty but there were contributions from Ashley Prince (46 off 35) and Dane Vilas (44 off 17). Jason Mohammed grabbed two wickets while Samuel Badree was economical with 1/13.

Pakistan are the only team in the tournament to remain unbeaten in the event. They have won all of their three games, defeating Australia, India and West Indies.
